VNA of Ohio Celebrates Hospice Volunteers During National Volunteer Week

Hospice Staff Recognize Countless Hours of Service and Other Contributions from Volunteers

CLEVELAND, Ohio (April 27, 2018) – Visiting Nurse Association of Ohio celebrated its hospice volunteers during National Volunteer Week with two special luncheons, recognition on social media, and by sharing their stories. In 2017, VNA of Ohio's 74 volunteers contributed over 2,800 service hours for families and patients in VNA's hospice and bereavement programs.

Services that volunteers provide range from respite care, providing companionship to a patient and offering caregivers a moment of relief, to administrative office work, helping to prepare mailings to bereaved families and making phone calls. Volunteers have also help by providing specialty services such as haircuts, music therapy, pet therapy, aromatherapy and others, One volunteer sews handmade gowns from fabric she finds or gets donated. Other volunteers offer legal assistance with estate planning and creating wills. VNA of Ohio also works with a volunteer from BeRemembered.com where she assists patients with writing their life story and preserving pictures and memories online.
