Visiting Nurse Association of Ohio Hospice Staff Member Dora Harper Receives "Caregiver of the Month" Award from Busch Funeral and Crematory Services

CLEVELAND, Ohio (November 15, 2019) – Visiting Nurse Association of Ohio is pleased to announce that Dora Harper was selected as the “Caregiver of the Month” by Busch Funeral and Crematory Services. Staff members from Busch presented her with the award in a surprise ceremony at VNA of Ohio's annual continuing education presentation at the Hilton Garden Inn Downtown on November 15. Nearly 130 guests were at the presentation when staff from Busch read her two nominations from her VNA of Ohio coworkers about why she deserved to be selected as “caregiver of the month.” Harper has been the Volunteer Coordinator at VNA of Ohio for 11 years.

"While Dora is our Hospice Volunteer Coordinator, she gladly takes on other duties such as answering the phone and helping with the varying situations that come through our Hospice Hotline," Taissa Kutsar wrote in her nomination. Kutsar is the bereavement counselor at VNA of Ohio and Harper's colleague. "Dora's happy smile brings a positive energy to the entire office."

"Her work ethic is strong and is always willing to help others, whether they are the patients we serve or her fellow co=workers," wrote Jenny Schumacher, Clinical Coordinator, BS, RN, CHPN, for VNA of Ohio, in her nomination. "She is full of energy and exudes her passion for life wherever she goes!"

"I work for VNA Ohio Hospice because I believe hospice isn't just a job, it's a ministry. It's a calling," said Harper.

Busch Funeral and Crematory Services recognizes and appreciates the hard work of individuals in our community that have taken on the responsibility of being a caregiver. Nominees may be a hospice professional, physician, nurse, chaplain, social worker, CNA, healthcare administrative professional, parish nurse, clergy, deacon, volunteer or anyone else who is seen as a caregiver in Northeast Ohio. These caregivers are unsung heroes and beacon of comfort for those they care for.
