Visiting Nurse Association of Ohio Holds 6th Annual Forum: Women in Healthcare Leadership

CLEVELAND, Ohio (September 24, 2019) – Visiting Nurse Association of Ohio (VNAO) recently hosted its Annual Forum at the offices of BakerHostetler, LLC, in Cleveland. This year’s forum focused on “Women in Healthcare Leadership,” serving as a platform for an intimate conversation for two accomplished leaders in healthcare. The event also provided the opportunity for VNAO to recognize three of its partner organizations that have helped contribute to the fulfillment of VNAO’s mission.

After a networking and cocktail reception, the evening began with an awards presentation recognizing VNAO’s partner organizations. Providence House was named VNAO’s Community Partner for their collaborations with VNAO over the last two years. VNAO’s Home Assist nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses have provided care to children at Providence House who are experiencing various medical conditions, as well as education and training for parents or caregivers. Reidy Medical Supply was recognized as VNAO’s Healthcare Partner for their 20 years of exceptional customer service and timely home-delivery of supplies for VNAO homebound patients. Crain’s Cleveland Business was recognized as VNAO’s Media Partner for their continued extensive coverage of healthcare and business related issues in Northeast Ohio.

Following the awards ceremony, Lisa VonLehmden-Zidek, President of VNA of Ohio, moderated a discussion between esteemed healthcare leaders Anthea R. Daniels, JD, Vice President and General Counsel at Akron Children’s Hospital and Constance Hill-Johnson, Owner and Managing Director of Visiting Angels Living Assistance Services. Ms. Daniels and Ms. Hill-Johnson shared their respective experiences including the challenges that women can face as leaders in healthcare and the advice they would offer to younger women seeking leadership positions within the industry.
Both women touched on the human component of healthcare, which drew them to the field in the first place, despite their non-clinical backgrounds.
“I’ll never forget what my mentor told me, because it wasn’t the advice I expected him to give. He said, ‘become an expert. Hone your craft, that’s how you can be successful,” Ms. Daniels shared with the audience of about 60 participants.

Connie Hill-Johnson had this advice for young professionals starting out, “Get involved. Get involved in community organizations, boards. Remember that your own name is your brand.”

Ms. VonLehmden-Zidek ended the Forum with the advice she received when she was starting out in sales and marketing, “No risk, no reward.”
The event was sponsored by BakerHostetler, who generously provided the venue, and RelateCare.
