CLEVELAND, Ohio (March 23, 2017) – Visiting Nurse Association of Ohio is pleased to announce that Lois Muraco was selected as the “Volunteer of the Month” by Busch Funeral and Crematory Services. Staff members from Busch presented Lois with the award at a surprise ceremony at VNA of Ohio headquarters on March 23. Guests enjoyed breakfast while staff from Busch read her nominations from VNA of Ohio staff members Taissa Kutsar and Sheila Horowitz about why she deserved to be selected as “volunteer of the month.”
A volunteer for many years, Lois was inspired to volunteer when her husband was ill and living in an assisted living home. She also cared for a patient she met during that time driving him to doctor’s appointments and assisting his family members. She took care of many others at the same assisted living
facility without any compensation or expectations.
“Lois’s dedication went above and beyond the expectations of anyone I had ever known caring for a patient who was not family,” Sheila Horowitz, a recently retired VNA of Ohio Hospice RN wrote in her nomination of Lois. “She truly deserves to be honored with this award and recognition.”
Lois is currently volunteering for VNA of Ohio’s Hospice program. She comes into the office weekly to make calls on behalf of VNA of Ohio’s Bereavement team. “Lois is the most kind, genuine and caring person,” Taissa Kutsar, a licensed social worker and Bereavement Coordinator for VNA of Ohio, wrote in her nomination. “She has been a truly selfless caregiver to so many people in her life.”
