Visiting Nurse Association of Ohio
CLEVELAND, Ohio (September 14, 2017) –Visiting Nurse Association of Ohio (VNAO) was proud to host its 3rd Annual Forum & Partner Recognition event on Thursday, September 14. The event, which was held at VNA of Ohio’s Cleveland office, was a free networking event for healthcare professionals followed by a panel discussion led by healthcare leaders from the community.
This year, panelists discussed population health, a popular topic of discussion in healthcare. Population health refers to the social determinants, individual behaviors and social and physical environment that affect healthcare outcomes. Panelists included Steven Landers, MD, MPH, President and CEO of Visiting Nurse Association Health Group (New Jersey); Nabil Chedade, MD, Senior VP Population Health, The MetroHealth System; Liz Madigan, PhD, RN FAAN, Professor of Nursing, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Case Western Reserve University; Neil Quinn, VP of Innovation and Strategic Risk Management, Oswald Companies; and moderated by John Corlett, President and Executive Director, The Center for Community Solutions.
John Corlett kicked off the presentation by discussing population health policy and how social determinents play into the health of an individual. He used the example of CHIP funds are currently being used for lead testing in households in Ohio and how that will improve health outcomes for children. The panelists touched on how healthcare systems can use population health to treat individuals more efficiently, including the importance of home visiting programs and leveraging community healthcare programs. They also discussed the urgent need for change considering a large segment of the population, baby boomers, will require increased healthcare in the near future. Panelists also talked about the role of the payor and employee and the challenges they face in providing healthcare in an efficient and effective way.
Following the panel discussion, Lisa Kristosik, President and COO of VNAO awarded community partners with a plaque and talked about each of their continued support for VNAO. Awardees included:
