VNA of Ohio fights ALS with #IceBucketChallenge

August 18, 2014 – Cleveland, Ohio – Visiting Nurse Association of Ohio employees will complete the Ice Bucket Challenge to raise awareness for those fighting against Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as ‘Lou Gehrig’s Disease’. Employees will meet in the parking lot of Cuyahoga Community College’s, Jerry Sue Thornton Center at 2500 East 22nd Street at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, August 19th.

VNA of Ohio serves many individuals batting ALS throughout the region and is raising awareness for patients, family members, and those in the community who have been affected by the condition. President & CEO, Claire Zangerle, will join employees as they douse themselves in ice water and join the movement that is sweeping the nation.

To date, the Ice Bucket Challenge has resulted in a dramatic increase of new donors to the ALS Association, raising over $15 million for research.

According to the ALS Association, ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Motor neurons reach from the brain, down the spinal cord and to the muscles of the body. The progressive degeneration of the motor neurons leads to the brain’s inability to initiate and control muscle movement, eventually leading to an individual’s death.

VNA of Ohio is taking the challenge and helping to create a world without ALS.
