Trauma-informed care is a relatively new approach that encourages clinicians to consider a patient’s history of trauma and how it impacts direct care the patient receives. It asks us to shift the question from, “What’s wrong with you?” to, “What happened to you?”

In this presentation, VNA of Ohio nurses will focus on trauma including events, experiences, and effects. As we discuss the four pillars of trauma-informed care, Respect, Safety, Information, and Choices, we will utilize lecture, video, and demonstration of how to conduct a trauma-informed interview. We will also address the impact of trauma on the clinician and the importance of self-care.

At the conclusion of this program audience members will have the knowledge to ask the right questions, avoid re-traumatizing a client, and build resilience in clients and in ourselves.
